Productivity Software

Productivity software has made office work easier as the decades go by. The article,  An Overview of Office Software and Productivity Software , explains the growth since "desk set" computing.

In the article, they mentioned that productivity suites have made office-oriented tasks more productive, which I agree with. I agree because, on a computer, you can get more done as far as scheduling appointments/meeting, browse for information, and send emails. As of today, computers have added a program where you can receive your text messages straight to your computer.

Therefore, these types of computer applications have become very important to today's everyday productivity. My favorite productivity suites are the ones where you can apply add-ons. So instead of me having to download an app with a specific function, I can simply add it to my current program. Google is my favorite so far. They literally have an internet browser (Google Chrome) and an emailing system (Gmail). Google also owns youtube and other platforms as well. This is why I believe Google is the most popular and used productivity software.

I provided a video that explains 5 Microsoft Office Alternatives, in case you are not a Microsoft Office fan.

Web-Based Office Productivity Suites

Web-based Productivity suites are probably the most popular work-related organizers. They help you store, organize and stay up to par with daily tasks within your office or job.

But... Which one is best for you?

9 Web-Based Office Productivity Suites help educate me on some popular productivity suites on the Internet.

9 Web-based Productivity Suites that are mentioned in the article were:
Glide OS
G.ho.st
Startforce
Prism
cmyOS
AirSet
ajaxWindows
Astranos
iCloud

After doing research, I came to the conclusion that I was going to stick with Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. I made this decision due to the reviews and the features seem to be better with Google Drive and OneDrive. I've used Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive since they came into existence. I never had any issue with either one of them. It is one of those things were a habit grows on you, and you are uncomfortable to switch up the routine. I do not want to switch over to a new application and regret it. I store all my documents, emails, and other files on these drives. Of course, I have a 1TB external drive for another place to store data in case any of those applications were to give out on me,

With that being said, I will forever be a user of Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive.

Bullet Journal: Easy or Confusing?

I came across an article ( The Tools Pros Use When To-do Lists Don't Cut It ) that introduced a new way of staying organized. This method is called the Bullet Journal. I never heard of this idea until I read this article, and watched the video explaining how it worked. As I watch the video, it appeared a little confusing to me. How about for you?

Here is the video:

New York designer, Ryder Caroll created the Bullet Journal in 2013. This task method was created to help individuals set up notebooks that started with an index that were the first couple of pages, then, followed by calendars and task lists. Keys things like dots, dashes, and circles were codes to identify the notes. Dots were for tasks, circles for events and dashes for notes. Stars were used to identify the most important tasks in their lists.

In the article, Kristin Barrett, a woman that was mentioned, said,
"I've taken notes, lots and lots of notes. … I (didn't) really necessarily have a format for what type of bullets I use, because frankly, I never thought it through that much," Barrett said. "This is an easy way to adopt a very disciplined system."
Barrett is a longtime note-taker and list-maker. She currently uses a digital calendar to manage and update her everyday schedule. She describes that her lists are very detailed, and she blocks out time for routine events. With new management responsibilities, her existing duties advising entrepreneurs and planning events, she needed a more disciplined system.

Some individuals may prefer writing their daily schedules down with pencils and paper, like Sue Becker, a productivity coach at Spark Productivity in Downers Grove. Other may even prefer both, digital and analog. You really have to play around with both, and pick your preference.

For myself, I love using digital. I store all the information of meetings, appointments, events in my calendar on my iPhone. It is quicker to add and update my notes that I store. If I were to make a mistake or need to change a task or item, I can do it all in one click. Scratch marks would not exist! Meaning, my notes would always be neat and clean. Notifications also play a huge part. They can alert me when a task is approaching its deadline or is coming up in the week or month.

Therefore, Bullet Journal might be beneficial, and easy for some who love writing their notes down, but difficult for individuals, who love digital scheduling, like me.

Will Laserfiche Lead to Rapid Growth in Student Success?

As technology keeps growing, resources for students become more and more available. Institutions try to figure out every school on how to better serve the rapid growth and change in the demographics of the student population.

In the article, Modernizing Campus Operations for Student Success, they mention,
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, by the year 2020, 9.6 million students who are 25 years and older will be heading to college. The center also found in 2009, these non-traditional students accounted for nearly 40% of all college and graduate students. The characteristics of these students – many of whom have families, work full or part-time, and are often returning to school to launch a second career – are challenging colleges and universities to modernize campus infrastructure for delivering student services. Institutions are leveraging the innovative Laserfiche workflow automation platform to transform operations across campus for student success.
I believe that with the rapid growth rate of students heading to college is a positive impact, and institutions will have to keep making each experience better and better. For example, Kennesaw State University is constantly doing this. They make sure that students are satisfied with their experiences in and outside the classroom.

Laserfiche was mentioned in this article. I had to do some extra research due to me not being familiar with this term. I found out that Laserfiche was a content management software. It is currently being used and trusted by over 35,000 organizations worldwide. The company is based in California and has been operating since 1987.  They develop solutions for workflow. Laserfiche currently holds an industry standard with a Department of Defense 5015.2 certified record in management solution.

This video goes more in depth with what Laserfiche can do...

I agree when the article says
Laserfiche is a leading global provider of enterprise content management software empowering colleges and universities to transform operations, improve efficiency and collaboration, and provide quality student and faculty services. Our series on this digital transformation will continue by looking at how institutions convert extracted data into business intelligence to support analytics-driven decision-making. The goal is to transform how services are delivered to an ever-changing student demographic and usher in the future of more modernized campus operations.
because college students need a database they can trust with all their school work and information.  Laserfiche appears to be a great candidate. It is user-friendly software and can be accessed anywhere and everywhere you go. I wonder if my current college will check out and maybe invest into Laserfiche?

Memes & Marketing

Over the last 5 years, Memes have taken over the internet by storm. It became a huge part of our society today. Memes are used to satisfy our humor and even to influence us in habits or politics. Could memes be the new way of marketing?

What is a Meme?

Dictionary.com defines a meme as "an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation."

A meme can be a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied and spread rapidly by Internet users. There are tons of memes can are created every day and become viral.

Examples of Memes

Memes in Marketing

Memes are a great strategy when trying to market a service or product. Here are 4 reasons why that I found in the article, Memejacking: The Complete Guide to Creating Memes for Marketing ...
1) They're Already Viral
2) They Make Great Social Media Fodder
3) They Attract Traffic, Likes, and Links
4) They're Quick and Easy to Create
Memes, in my opinion, are like the ADs we see on TV and billboards. I say that because ADs are more likely to be remembered when the AD leaves a memorable effect on the audience. Either it is humorous, emotion striking or serious.

Visuals always seem to leave a higher impact than words. I believe the concept of memes can be turned into multiple meanings. That's why memes are so great for marketing. It's all about leading that idea to become the success that it already is. Social Media plays a huge factor in that because more individuals are getting their hands on different social media platforms. Which means more content is being shared among people all over the world.
